The 2014 Awards Committee
The Sam
& Jack Multimedia Awards were born out of the excitement of the group of
women below. We met at Gateworld and forged a friendship out of
our shared love for the Sam/Jack ship.
It’s
amazing how strong the community of people who are bonded by this ship remains
years after the show has gone off the air. The community continues to find
fun ways to keep everyone engaged - these awards are just an extension of that
and a way to recognize the amazing artists in our midst.
Amara is no
stranger to fandom. She’s been an active part of several communities
since the mid 90s. She didn’t happen upon Stargate until late 2011 thanks
to Netflix. Shortly thereafter she discovered the ardent fan community at
Gateworld and an addict was born. Already a longtime writer, she was
anxious to try her hand at a new genre. She found an amazingly supportive
audience that’s encouraged her to stay involved with keeping this fandom
thriving.
Amara is
responsible for roping everybody in (and delegating all the real work to them)
and the web design.
Samantha-Carter-is-my-muse
(affectionately referred to simply as SCIMM or Muse) joined the Stargate
Community in August of 2012. It only took a short while for her to turn
her attentions towards creating fanworks. She started with gifsets she
posted at tumblr because she wanted to share her love for the Sam/Jack ship
with others. In December of the same year she discovered fanfiction and
likes to remind us she still hasn’t finished the crime novel she was reading at
the time! She was inspired by the active Stargate community to venture
into the world of art making and she enjoys it very much.
SCIMM is
responsible for our banners, signatures, logo manipulation, gifs and many other
pieces of art you see on our website and on our social media pages.
Fems has
been a longtime fan of Stargate: SG-1 and first began watching when she was
still a kid. Even back then she was a little shipper - even if she didn’t
yet know what a ‘shipper’ was! Fast forward to the series finale.
After the final two seasons she found somewhat disappointing, she turned
to fanfiction to rediscover her love for the show; and she read a lot of
fanfiction! A 2010 New Year’s Resolution had her trying her hand at writing
some fanfic of her own. Despite no real experience writing stories,
especially not in English not being a native speaker, she’s gone on to write
many stories with the support and encouragement of the Stargate fan community.
While
continuing to be an active writer, she’s jumped on board with the Sam &
Jack Multimedia Awards where she’s the master of all things social media.
An artist
and a writer, Nei was introduced to Stargate: SG-1 about 18 months ago by a
friend who insisted she watch it because of a fabulous character, Samantha
Carter. She gave in to her friend’s request and has never looked back. She
joined Gateworld to get to know some fans before heading down to AT7, and
discovered the shippers. The mixture of history, culture and the sciences in
Stargate piqued her imagination, and tapped into her love of Ancient Egypt.
Stargate provided her with a new goldmine of inspiration, which she channels into
fanfiction and shippy projects. Alongside short pieces, she is still writing
her first fanfiction, which at over 80,000 words, so far, has become a novel.
Nei created
our beautiful 3D Gate logo you see in many applications throughout the
website.
XFChemist
XFchemist has loved Stargate SG-1 since the first time she saw it on her TV in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, the show wasn't very popular in her country and the broadcast programming was awful, so it was some years later that she finally managed to watch the whole series. She discovered fandoms relatively late, in 2009, and shortly thereafter she started making fanvids. Through YouTube she met other shippers, joined Gateworld and became a fanfiction addict!
XFchemist is responsible for the wonderful promotional videos you can see on our social media pages.
IamDKScully
IamDKScully (or just plain Scully) found herself immersed in Stargate fandom two years ago when she discovered the entire series online one night when she was up late desperately seeking a break from real life. Once she'd finished watching the series from start to finish, she still wanted more. Luckily, she found the continued adventures of her favorite foursome in something called “fanfiction.” Inspired by those awesome tales, Scully soon posted a fanwork of her own. She has since published several stand-alone stories and has two multi-chapter WIPs. Her love for the fandom continues to grow through the community over at Gateworld. It was there that she found encouragement as a fanfiction author, began creating digital art and found an awesome group of people to share in her favorite ship as well as her Stargate obsession.
Scully has come on board to assist with some of the administrative tasks and her artwork can soon be found alongside Muse's promoting the awards across the universe.
