The continuation of the Best Alternate Reality Category
She keeps telling herself that she lived and that makes everything okay. So why isn't she okay?
Instead of a summary, the above are two lines from the fic itself. They might not tell you much about the circumstances of the alternate reality, but they certainly are enough to pique one's curiosity! The story starts in the middle of a firefight and is told entirely from Sam's point of view, which gives us a great insight into the mind of this Doctor Carter. Of course, Jack is there too since it's a shippy story. Unlike many other AR fics with Doctor Carters there isn't an instant hate/dislike between the characters and instead, we see Jack's more caring side straight from the start.

Meet You On The Other Side by LSgrimm91
Jack O'Neill, a brigadier general with a serious dislike for scientists, has been placed in charge of the world's biggest technological investment. Things wouldn't get easier when his head of the science department was as attractive as Doctor Samantha Carter.
This lovely multi-chapter story is set in the first alternate reality we encountered in the show. You know, the one where Doctor Carter and General O'Neill were engaged?! It was one of the last episodes of season one, There But For the Grace of God, in which Daniel accidentally stepped through a quantum mirror. After dialing 'home' everything was different back at the SGC: Jack was a general, Hammond a colonel, Sam a civilian and Catherine Langford was still working there - Daniel Jackson wasn't involved at their SGA at all!
Instead of picking up where the episode left off, this fanfiction explores that alternate reality from the moment the SGA - their version of the SGC - is set up. More importantly, when Sam and Jack meet for the first time and how they eventually got engaged.
As for the episode's sad ending? Well, you'll have to read the story to find out whether it sticks to canon or not!
What if Abydos wasn't destroyed, and Jack and Sam really did go to Skaara's wedding?
Do you remember the season six finale? That's right, the one that ended with Anubis blowing up Abydos and all the Abydonians, including Skaara, ascending with the help of Oma Desala. It was especially sad since Skaara had just told SG-1 that he was going to get married and he'd invited Sam and Jack to come to his wedding together - which kinda freaked Jack out and that in turn amused Sam.

In this short fic, bluemoonmaverick used the wedding invitation as an opportunity to write a what-if scenario, albeit rated slightly higher than would be allowed in the show. It's a wonderful mix of cultural misunderstandings, alien influence, humor and heat. There are also has some great character interactions, in particular Skaara, Daniel and Teal'c who all appear to be conspiring in order to get Sam and Jack to admit their feelings and act on them.
